Episode 112 Transcript

Good morning friends and listeners!  It’s great to be here and it’s great to have you listening in today!

In this series I have been talking about Metaphysical Humanism and the principles and mental faculties we can use to self-actualize and become the best humans we can be

This episode I am sharing with you the sixth and final intrinsic wisdom.  But first, let’s recap intrinsic wisdoms 1-5.

Our first wisdom, or mental faculty, we learned about was imagination and that it’s our greatest tool to creating a life we love.  Remember, everything is created twice; first it’s created as a thought, then it’s created in the physical world.  Your imagination can help you have thoughts that expand beyond what you think is possible.

Our second wisdom was intuition. Gandhi said that intuition, which he called the voice for truth, speaks to every person on the planet every single day, but its voice is only as loud as our willingness to listen to it.  Yes, we all have equal access to this connection to the field of consciousness – we just have to get the ego out of the way so that we can listen.

The third wisdom was perception.  This is how the mind interprets information that comes in through all our senses.  We attach a meaning to that information that we see, hear, taste, touch, feel, and intuit. We attach meaning to all of it. The superpower is knowing that we can consciously choose the meaning.  We have control over the meaning we place on things.

The forth wisdom, Will, is the ability to focus on something – to remain focused on what you want.  Paradigms pop up and try to distract you and dissuade you, but you can call on your Will to refocus back on your goals.

And the fifth wisdom, reason, we learned that there is a right way and a wrong way to use reason. Reason is part of the process of thinking – and most people don’t think, they have thoughts that they aren’t aware of all the time. Reason is the action of choosing your thoughts -the action of thinking -but not just any thoughts. Its being brave and choosing thoughts that take you out of your comfort zone and into the land of potential and possibility.

And here we are today with our final intrinsic wisdom, or Mental faculty as Bob Proctor called them.

Let’s talk about the superpower of memory.

You might wonder how memory is a superpower especially since most people on some level don’t think they have very good memories. How many of you say you can’t remember people’s names? Or you walk into the kitchen and can’t remember what you went in there for?    We think that when we get older our memory starts to fail us. And if you are in my generation, we can’t remember those algebra equations, but we sure remember the lyrics to all those songs.

Would you believe me if I said you have a perfect memory? And just like all our other perfect mental faculties, you just need to understand how to make it your superpower.

Memory can be used as superpowers in 4 really great ways.

  1. To recall facts, like people’s names, or for me, historical facts.
  2. To remember your past successes and triumphs.
  3. To remember your past moments of joy and bliss and love.
  4. To remember your future self living your dreams.

Yes, you heard that correctly.  Memory can move in two directions; to the past and to the future.  And I am going to explain how in a few minutes.

First, let’s talk about each of these ways that we can make better use of our memory.

The first way, recalling facts, is probably the most frequent way we use our memory, or at least the most frequent way in which we think our memory fails us.  See, memory is stored by association to something else – most often, that association is with an emotion or event or even something ridiculous.  With facts, like names, numbers, historical facts, algebra equations – there isn’t really any emotion for your mind to associate with these things.  In schools in the U.S., we teach these things with rote practice – memorizing times tables and vocabulary and spelling. We practice these facts over and over and over again until we take a test and the “poof” a lot of that memorized content disappears from our minds.

There are tools that you can use to make this kind of memory a superpower.  There are games you can play to increase memory. Speakers and authors like Jim Kwick have mnemonic devices and ways to memorize lists and names very easily.  You can find him all over the internet with videos to demonstrate some of these tools.

I am not going to focus on those today, because that’s not my area expertise and there are a ton of games and devices and videos you can find online to help you practice and build muscle with this kind of memory.

The next kind of memory is to remember your successes and accomplishment in the past.

Why would you want to do that, it’s a bit egotistical, right? Well, that can be true if you live in your memories.  That can cause depression and comparison between your old life and current life, and for you to be stuck and unable to get traction in the present.

But it can be a superpower for you to recall these memories.

So, let’s say you have a job interview today and the closer it gets the more doubtful you get about yourself.  Thoughts begin to interrupt your preparation: “I’m not good enough;” “I don’t have all of the qualifications for this job;” “I never do well in interviews;” “I don’t have much success.”

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

If your thoughts are focused on how bad you are going to mess up the interview, you are probably not going to have the success you want.

But.

What if you used your superpower of memory to recall all the times in your life that you have been successful?  What if you made a list – going back to your childhood and your earliest memories– of all the things you succeeded at all your life up until now?  Think of things right now. You could probably list a 100 things – I know you can.  Start with, you learned to walk!  You learned to talk! You learned to ride a bike. You learned to read. You learned to jump rope. You made it through middle school.  You learned a sport or to play an instrument. You made a team or the band or the club. You acted in the school play.  You graduated.  You learned to drive. You earned your first paycheck.

Before you were even out of your teen years – all your life you have been a success-creating machine! Did you know that about yourself?

Remember all your success – and swipe away those intrusive thoughts about not succeeding – they will come up.  Just remember, you can choose your thoughts.  Pay them no attention.

Feel your success – what did it feel like when you ran into the house and showed everyone you caught your first fish?  Or when you won your first ball game? Or pedaled the bike without training wheels? What did it feel like hearing others applaud for you?  What did it feel like to hold your license in your hand for the first time? Remember walking across the platform to receive your diploma – how did that feel?

That’s the feeling you want to have as you prepare for your job interview!  Success! Accomplishment! I am success!

Can you feel that!  It’s great to lift your vibe in that way. Now bring that feeling back to the present moment to your present circumstance.  You will succeed, because you have with every major milestone in your life you have been a success.  You are success!

And it’s good to use your memory like this – to call upon this superpower when you need it.  Just don’t camp out there.  Don’t stay in the memories, stay in the feeling. Come back to the present moment and apply that feeling to your current circumstances. And keep watching those negative memories go by without engaging with them.

You have proof in your memories that you are a success and always have been.  Take that awareness into your interview, or on your date, or to take your test, or to whatever goal or dream you are working towards. Take that feeling of success with you.

Another superpower of memory is that we can recall past moments of joy and bliss to reconnect with that vibration.  These are moments where you felt the most alive, the most yourself, the freest, the most joyful, the most love.  Your wedding, your child’s birth, during sacred ceremony, getting the keys to your new home, making the first dollar in your business – for me, it’s when I am dancing like no one is watching.

Why is this wisdom?  Because it allows you to use past experience to raise your vibration in a current experience.  Sometimes we need to come up out of low feelings.  And don’t think this is inauthentic or spiritual bypassing or any of that – these are real feelings stored in your memory and stored there for a reason; for you to have access to them.

What happens when we raise our vibrational frequency?  We attract higher frequency life to us.  This is a superpower that helps you manifest your dreams and to become the person you long to become.

And now, for what we’ve all been waiting for – an explanation of time travel into the future using your memory.

Alice in Wonderland, which by the way is an allegory about cognitive development as a child grows, has a great quote from the White Queen about memory:

The White Queen tells Alice “…one’s memory works both ways.”

“I’m sure mine only works one way,” Alice remarked. “I can’t remember things before they happen.”

“It’s a poor sort of memory that only works backward,” the queen remarked.

Now, this isn’t psychic foresight or premonition we’re talking about here.  I am going to tell you how to go into your future and see your life – feel your life – experience your life – just the way you dream it to be.

This is an exercise I use in my Vision Quest Workshops – and as always, I invite you to attend one of my online or in-person sessions, they are free the link is in the description of this episode.

First, I want you to think about a dream or a longing you have in an area of your life – health, finances, relationships, career… what is a dream level goal you are trying to achieve in your life in one of those areas?

To begin, I’d like to invite you to put everything to one side and take a nice deep breath.

Bringing your awareness back into your own body. Relax your shoulders. Breathing all the way down into your hips, down into your legs, down into the soles of your feet, and into the Earth.

And with each breath, allow your awareness to drop even deeper and wider, expanding outward from your body to the edges of the room. Become aware of yourself as already connected to a field of life  force energy that surrounds you – connected to the field of consciousness.

Bring to your focus the longing you have to achieve…the goal – this dream – for your life.  This longing to expand who you are and to become your greatest potential.

I  ask you to be curious and open and tap into all of your mental superpowers… imagination, intuition, reason, perception, and will…

In this moment I want you to see yourself entering a time machine, whatever that looks like to you,  and travel 3 years into the future.  As you arrive you step out of the time machine at the exact place you dreamed to be – whether its in your dream home, or dream office, or dream destination – you are here.  You are here now.  It’s no longer the future, its your present moment.  You see yourself at this location – notice everything that is happening.

  • What does this space look like?  The colors, the décor, the furniture or the nature that surrounds you.
  • You are living your dream. Everything you hoped for in this area of your life has manifested.  What are you doing? Are you working or relaxing? Are you having fun?
  • What are you wearing?  How are you dressed in this dream life?
  • Who is with you? Talk to them. What are you saying to them.  How do you sound when talking to them? What does your voice sound like?
  • What does this place smell like – what are the scents in this place?
  • And how do you feel? What is that feeling inside of you as you live this life you imagined 3 years ago?  Is it a sense of peace, joy, happiness – what does it feel like to live your dream?
  • If you are having trouble feeling, recall the exercise we did earlier about your moments of success and joy and bliss in your life. Feel all those feelings you had then when you were at your most successful, joyous, free, and most yourself.  This is how it feels to live your dream.  This is how it feels to live a life you love.
  • Feel it in your body, the parts that are alive with energy in this moment.  Where in your body do you feel it? What is the feeling?

Yeah.  It’s amazing.  Take a deep breath and take it all in.

Now it’s time to get back into the time machine.  Return to the day you are listening to this podcast.  But bring those feelings and the memory of that scene with you.

And now you’re back. Go ahead and move your body to reorientate to this moment.

Your future is now part of you memory that you can recall anytime you feel like you can’t achieve your dreams.  You already have achieved your dreams.  You created it in you mind, you lived it in your body, and it’s stored in your memory.  You’ve done it already.  Feel it.  It’s there.  And it will be created in the physical world as you take the steps your 6 intrinsic wisdoms guide you to take.

The vital thing is that you tap into them as often as you can.  Build those superpower muscles so that you can call on them in any moment.  Choose your thoughts, imagine your dream life, take your reason beyond your comfort zone, focus on your vision, listen to your still small voice, and remember how it feels to live your dream.
